Translate the five functions in src/meter.cpp from reference/listing.asm and make run_tests pass.
run / FzGv6Txs5mGSa-yl2xSKj3sb
Let's start by reading the file.
Arguments:
{
"path": "NOTES.md"
}
Result:
1: # Translation notes
2:
3: Translate each function in src/meter.cpp from the original 32-bit PowerPC machine code.
4: reference/decompiled.c is Ghidra's pseudo-C: a draft that can be wrong or clumsy.
5: reference/listing.asm is the real machine code, so when the two disagree, the listing is
6: right. reference/functions.tsv lists the functions with their addresses and sizes.
7:
8: ## Rules
9: - Translate what the code does, including quirks. Do not improve the logic.
10: - Portable C++17 with fixed-width types (int32_t, uint32_t); plain C constructs are fine.
11: Use the struct fields and the METER_* names from include/meter.h; its comments give each
12: field's byte offset. Only files under src/ can be edited.
13: - Replace each function's TODO comment with your translation.
14:
15: ## Reading the PowerPC
16: - Arguments arrive in r3, r4, r5, ...; the result goes in r3. Pointers are 4 bytes.
17: - `lwz r5, 8(r3)` loads the 32-bit field at byte offset 8 of the struct r3 points to;
18: `stw` stores one.
19: - `andi.`, `cmpw` and `cmpwi` set the condition register that the following `beq`, `bne`,
20: `blt`, `bge`, `ble` or `bgt` tests; `cmplw` compares unsigned.
21: - The compiler likes branch-free forms: `srawi r4, r3, 31` makes a mask of r3's sign (all
22: ones when negative) and `andc r3, r3, r4` is r3 AND NOT r4, so together they are
23: `r3 < 0 ? 0 : r3`. `rlwinm rD, rS, 31, 31, 31` rotates right by one and keeps one bit: it
24: extracts bit 1 of rS as 0 or 1.
25: - Integer arithmetic wraps at 32 bits (your build uses -fwrapv). There are no floats.
26:
27: ## Working method
28: - Read decompiled.c and listing.asm once in full (they are short). Re-reading them does not
29: change them.
30: - After run_tests, fix the function it names. The failure message gives the exact input and
31: both results, so compare your code against the listing for that input, then run again.
32:
33: ## The tests
34: run_tests builds your code, then runs every function twice on the same inputs: once as the
35: original machine code in a PowerPC emulator and once as your C++. Each function gets edge
36: cases plus 200 random cases. The return value and every field of the Meter are compared, so
37: a field the original does not write must keep its old value. A function passes when all of
38: its cases match.Arguments:

6: 0x1000006c 44 meter_levelLet me try translating each one:
**meter_reset**: value=0, flags=1 (ENABLED). Note: limit is not written (Ghidra's m[2]=1 is flags, and m[1] is not written). So:
```cpp
m->value = 0;
m->flags = METER_ENABLED;
```
**meter_add**:
- flags = m->flags; if (flags & 1) { old = value; new = old + amount; value = new; if (new >= limit) flags |= 2; }
- return value (reload).
Note: cmpw r4, r7; blt → if new < limit, skip; otherwise set the FULL bit. So the condition is new >= limit (signed).
```cpp
int32_t flags = m->flags;
if (flags & METER_ENABLED) {
int32_t old = m->value;
int32_t nv = old + amount;
m->value = nv;
if (nv >= m->limit) m->flags = flags | METER_FULL;
}
return m->value;
```
**meter_remaining**: limit - value, clamped to 0 if negative:
```cpp
int32_t r = m->limit - m->value;
return r < 0 ? 0 : r;
```
**meter_is_full**: bit 1 of flags:
```cpp
return (m->flags >> 1) & 1u;
```
**meter_level**: if value <= 0 return 0; if value < limit return 1; otherwise return 2.
```cpp
if (m->value <= 0) return 0;
if (m->value < m->limit) return 1;
return 2;
